Drawing on the main analyses of Weber’s works carried out from the Seventies of the XX century, the purpose of the paper is to conceptualize a nuanced understanding of rationality as a result of manifold processes of rationalization in order to identify useful points that help to deepen better contemporary issues. In particular, the origins and criticalities of the process of rationalization will be addressed to define rationality as a multifaceted concept. Western rationality does not represent neither the only extant rationality nor the “one best way” of modernization; rather, it is just one of the different forms of rationality, resulting from complex and contradictory processes of objectification. Drawing on the idea of Weber’s rationalization as an interpretive scheme, it is possible to better understand two social specific dynamics: the co-existence of multiple forms of modernity; the limitations of modern science during the Covid-19 emergency.</p>}, number={20}, journal={Cambio.
