Abstract

Residential care facilities for older adults (CRA) are complex environments where care quality and staff training are closely interconnected. The study investigates the role of continuing education in promoting the integration of educational and non-pharmacological approaches into daily practice, comparing frontline staff (high resident contact) with middle-management roles (low contact). Within a mixed-methods design, 80 questionnaires administered to professionals in a Local Health Unit in Northern Italy were analyzed to assess attitudes toward dementia, job satisfaction, perceived technical skills, and training needs, with particular attention to transversal skills and innovative approaches. The findings indicate the relevance of multi-level training policies aimed at strengthening transversal skills and lifelong learning, as well as the central contribution of middle-management leadership to enhancing the quality, coherence, and sustainability of care practices in CRAs.

 

Promuovere approcci educativi e non farmacologici nella cura delle persone anziane con demenza: una ricerca nelle CRA.

Le strutture residenziali per anziani (CRA) costituiscono contesti complessi in cui qualità della cura e formazione del personale sono interconnesse. Lo studio esplora il ruolo della formazione continua nel favorire l’integrazione di approcci educativi e non farmacologici nella pratica quotidiana, confrontando figure operative (alto contatto con gli ospiti) e di leadership intermedia (basso contatto). All’interno di un disegno mixed methods, sono stati analizzati 80 questionari somministrati a professionisti di un’Azienda Usl del Nord Italia, rilevando atteggiamenti verso le demenze, soddisfazione lavorativa, percezione delle competenze tecniche e bisogni formativi, con focus su competenze trasversali e approcci innovativi. Emerge l’importanza di politiche formative multilivello, volte a valorizzare competenze trasversali e lifelong learning, e il ruolo centrale delle leadership intermedie nel migliorare qualità, coerenza e sostenibilità delle pratiche assistenziali nelle CRA.
