Abstract

The article examines the theme of participation in the adoption process. First, it explores the role of existential planning in the adoption transition as a relational and social process which re - organises family identity and belonging. Participation is therefore considered a best practice, since it allows the child to plan and decide on their own future, and the couple to carry out an assessment of their own motivation, resources, and their true readiness for the adoption. Second, the article focuses on socio-educational practices that support participatory processes for the child and the couple, outlining a potential reference model that could be implemented in both national and international adoption.
