Abstract

This paper is devoted to a group of Russian verbs with the circumfixes do-/za-/raz-…-sja, which express an intensive Aktionsart, and to their translation into Italian. The analysis outlines the semantic properties of these verbs and their pragmatic behaviours in some communicative contexts. The comparison of the two languages shows the particular ways in which the intensive meaning of the predicates is encoded: the semantic and pragmatic connotations of the circumfixed Russian verbs are expressed in Italian by lexical intensifiers, idiomatic expressions and specific sintactic patterns.
