Abstract

In a precarious general framework, in which the quality of the Italian healthcare system is getting worse and worse, there are examples of excellence, such as the Maria Letizia Verga Center for the Study and Treatment of child leukemia. This is a new pavilion for the Pediatric Hematology of S. Gerardo Hospital in Monza, fourth center in the world to bring together in a single organization the medical care and the research/training activities. The building architectural design aimed at coordinating the efficiency of medical procedures together with the criteria of humanization of the spaces and the new partnership model, revolutionary within the Italian National Health Service, represent two of the aspects that contribute this Center to be a distinctive case.
