Abstract

The contribution introduces some research experiences focuses on innovation processes in the context of actions and projects for the regeneration of the so-called “periferie dell’abitare” (suburbs of living), investigating in particular the technical content and operational and procedural relations between interventions of physical- spatial and participative social practices. The context of analysis focuses on marginal public and / or collective urban spaces, places that, for various reasons, have lost their original function and are now considered as residual areas where environmental and social degradation phenomenas occur. A recurring condition in peripheral and semi-peripheral areas of cities, but also in central areas affected by major transformation processes related to productive dismantling and reconfiguration of the mobility and transport system. What these places have in common, regardless of their size or location, is their public character, that is represented by their relevance – in terms of “potential” – for the communities of citizens who are involved in the transformation processes that characterize the cities all over the world.
