Abstract

The availability of tools that assess the material sustainability in relation to the green protocols is scarce. The research proposes a tool and a methodology to support the materials selection in terms of sustainability whilst also comparing material choices with a quantification of the associated LEED.v4 BD+C MR credits. It assesses the design whilst providing advice to designers on material choice improvement both to achieve LEED maximum score and material sustainability. The quantification is achieved using parameters defined in the project’s BIM model. The methodology was applied in a case study. The extension of the research to include non-certified materials and the application of it to other case studies is recommended as some materials and products fall out of the current assessment system.
