AH News: HerpeThon is back!
A bridge between academic research and general public; an occasion to share knowledge and raise awareness; a chance to discuss the biological and ecological relevance of amphibians and reptiles: HerpeThon is this, and much more! The herpetological marathon, organized by the Societas Herpetologica Italica every other year since 2011, has now reached the 7th edition.
HerpeThon 2023, organized with the collaboration of the Apulian regional branch of the SHI, will take place from April 29th to October 19th, bringing lectures, workshops and meetings in several Italian cities and towns, often in unusual venues. Academic researchers and scientific communicators will meet the public to increase the understanding of the biology and the ecological role of Amphibians and Reptiles, two classes of Vertebrates that are often poorly known and even feared.
The theme of HerpeTbbon 2023 is “Herpetofauna and Anthropocene”: therefore, the events will focus on the interactions between humans and Amphibians and Reptiles. During the meetings, the audience will discover the impacts of human activity of the conservation of these animals; the strategies implemented to mitigate such impacts; the myths and the folklore regarding snakes, lizards, salamanders, toads and frogs; the importance of museums and citizen science for the protection of species and habitats.
