Abstract

With the mysterious expression Pax Palamedes Petronius’ Habinnas prompts himself to cut short his scatological reference to the catillum concacatum. While alliteration plays an important role, these words probably allude to the interruption of Palamedes’ speech by Priam when the former was sent as an ambassador to Troy, as reported by Dictys of Crete.
