Abstract
This paper aims to discuss a textual passage of Fronto’s correspondence with Marcus Aurelius (5.17 Van den Hout2), in a letter dated approximately between 142 and 143. The analysis goes across previous editions of the whole corpus and Fronto’s usus scribendi: as result, Van den Hout’s text could be modified introducing a conjecture by Sebastiano Timpanaro and a reading by Edmund Hauler.
