Hesychianum

Abstract

This note argues that the locus classicus of Hesych. κ 1138 Latte should be identified with Xen. Cyr. 6.1.4, and not, as Moritz Schmidt thought, with Hdt. 5.92.3. Furthermore, it suggests that Hesychius’ Lexicon (or his source, perhaps Diogenianus) had access to a corpus of ancient λέξεις to the Cyropaedia, now lost.
