Abstract

Stylistic analysis shows that Encomium in sanctos martyres (CPG 4950) was delivered by Severian of Gabala. Remarks on the published text. The Greek indirect tradition amounts to a quotation by Photius (Bibliotheca cod. 274), and a gloss in the Etymologicum Gudianum. The attribution to Severian survives in Armenian, but under a different text form. Proposed litur¬gical context: All-Saints day (after Easter) in Constantinople. The homily probably mentions the Paschal troparion “Christ is risen”.
