Abstract

The paper examines the recent research by J.-M. Carrié on the well-known legislation of the emperor Julian, which established the exclusion from the public teaching of Christian professors. In highlighting the interest and originality of Carrié’s analysis (in particular its re­consideration of Iul. ep. 61c Bidez), this paper argues why it cannot be considered conclusive.
