Abstract

The ancient treatises on rhetoric quoting and discussing this passage of Demosthenes’ De corona lead to the discovery of a humoristic purpose, which has so far escaped modern commentators. An analysis of the rhetorical figures suggests that the words ἐξέπιπτες, ἐγὼ δ᾽ ἐσύρριτον  are probably interpolated.
