Abstract

An interpretation of Cic. fat. 39 ff.: the distinction between fatum and necessitas probably goes back to Chrysippus, but this does not mean that Cicero aimed to produce a full explanation of Chrysippus’ doctrine, and the missing text between 45 and 46 may have included a disagreement with the latter’s concept of nature.
