Abstract

The cult of eponymous heroes was still alive in the Hellenistic age. This is the reason why Ptolemy Soter had the mortal remains of Alexander the Great carried back to Alexandria: the same happened with Seleucus Nicator and Demetrios Poliorcetes in the cities they had founded.
