Critical assessment of the recent monograph by J. Küppers (Die Fabeln Avians, Bonn 1977), with special focus on the much disputed problem of Avianus’ sources (probably not a complete Latin paraphrase of Babrius, as many scholars assume) and the allegorical value of his collection.
