Timone, Luciano e Menippo: rapporti nell’ambito di un genere letterario

Abstract

Timon hardly influenced Lucian through Menippus, the last being active in the first half of the third century BC, while Timon’s Silloi were probably written between 260 and 240 BC. It is rather worth investigating their common background, i.e. the philosophical satire in both verse and prose, which enjoyed great success among the Cynics.
