Abstract

In this fragment we find a further occurrence of a well known comic device, i.e. a character addressing himself in a transition from dialogue to monologue. Both Menander and Plautus provide some instances, but not so many as one might expect – they were aware that monologue and dramatic structure do not always go well together.
