Abstract

A closer look at Arist. Met. 988a shows that the theory of two main principles, ascribed to Plato by Aristotle, is not at odds with Plato’s extant writings (especially Resp. and Parm.). Also of interest is Alex. Aphr. in Arist. Met. 58.31-59.8 Hayduck, a much disputed passage, where καὶ τῷ εἴδει is to be supplied before καὶ τῇ ἰδέᾳ.
