Abstract
The anecdote about Seneca comparing Nero to a wild beast, attested in the so-called Probus Vallae on Juvenal 5.109, comes from a source related to the Annaean family, possibly Pliny the Elder. A similar image can be found in Lucan, 4.235-242.
