Abstract
The term οἰκεία ἀρετή may be understood in different ways, according to its reference to plants, animals, or men. The meaning of ἀρετή evolves from “skill” or “ability” to “moral virtue”. John Chrysostom indentifies ἀρετή with χριστιανισμός, attributing to “virtue” a typically Christian dynamic and inner strength.
