Abstract

The interpretation of the Hesiodic chaos as a place, attested in the 4th book of Physics, does not belong to Aristotle himself: it should rather be traced back to the Academy and its debate about the cosmology of Plato’s Timaeus. The treatise De Melisso Xenophane Gorgia appears to support this view.
