Abstract
The paradoxographical work assigned to Antigonus of Carystos actually belongs to an ἐκλογή (or collection) probably composed at the request of Constantine VII. This collection proves that in 10th century it was still possible to read works that are supposed to have been lost earlier, such as Aeschylus’ Toxotides. The high quality of the poetical quotations testifies the erudition of the scholars who surrounded the Emperor and took care of his huge library.
