Abstract

There is no reason to question the authenticity of either the whole carm. 4.8 or a part of it: even the metrical oddity of Carthaginis at line 17 finds some parallels in the fourth book of the Odes. On the contrary, the affinities with 1.1 and 3.30 testify to the Horatian authorship of the poem.
