Abstract

While in Theocritus the love of Adonis and Aphrodite is surrounded by a beautiful, unperturbed scenery, Bion’s bombastic style aims to create an atmosphere of death and loss; the structure of the latter’s poem suggests that he was reproducing a sequence of visual representations of the Adonis myth.
