Abstract

While in the Iliad the heroes’ stylised banquets are a representation of their social or psychological setting, the Odyssey, closer to folklore than to epic code, enacts different kinds of meals, sometimes preluding to gruesome events – such are the killing of Helios’ cattle, the Cyclops’ meal, and the suitors’ feasting.
