Abstract

According to ancient sources, Caecilius Statius is credited with composing an Andria or Andrea. In addition, some sources attest that he read Terentius’ Andria. Nevertheless, many scholars deny credit to this information, since Caecilius’ death (168 B.C.) reportedly preceded Andria’s creation by Terentius (166 B.C.). According to G. D’Anna, Caecilius Statius died at a later date, which might have enabled him to read Terentius’ Andria. Such a dating would support the tradition according to which he read Terentius’ Andria by appointment of the aediles.
