The theme of the tyrant and the concatenation of his scelera is investigated in several passages from Cicero’s works, especially with reference to Verres. This is to be read with reference to both Seneca’s tragedies (Phoen. 295 ff., Ag. 169, Thy. 256, 731, 267 ff.) and Accius’ Atreus (possibly the first occurrence of this motif).
