Abstract
The textual tradition of Aristotle’s Ethica Nicomachea is not well known, and most of the earliest medieval manuscripts remain unexamined. This paper studies the important manuscript Laur.81.18, offering a complete collation and tentative discussion of its position in the textual tradition. It is argued that the text of Laur. 81.18 (a product of the scriptorium of Ioannikios) is valuable: editors must use it. This paper is a prolegomenon towards the new critical edition of Aristotle’s Ethica Nicomachea, which I am currently preparing.
