Abstract
Prosopographical scrutiny suggests that ‘Glaucon’ at Symp. 172c is the name of neither Plato’s brother nor his great-uncle, but may rather represent a reader’s guess at the identity of an anonymous interlocutor; it will be an intrusive gloss on an impatient, comedic address by the narrator Apollodorus.
