Abstract
As shown by Green, the new Brindisi mosaic represents a scene of Menander’s Samia. However, Demeas is not entreating Chrysis, but expelling her, as in a Mytilene mosaic, in a Louvre relief and a wall-painting from Pompeii. No entreaty scene was in Menander’s Samia. The Naples relief represents probably Chrysis’ escape from Nikeratos’ house in the fourth act of the play.Metrics
