Abstract
In the Middle Ages, Cornelius Nepos was known only thanks to Atticus’ and Cato’ lives (the biographies of the Greek generals were under Emilius Probus’ name). In the XII century the abbot Wibald of Stavelot wrote his friend Manegold of Paderborn about Cornelius Nepos: probably he had read the Life of Atticus. This evidence disproves the common opinion that Nepos was a totally unknown author in Medieval Europe.
