Abstract

This essay employs the concept of Case to investigate the re-appropriation of psychological theories in Federigo Tozzi’s short stories, as well as the broader dialogue between literature and psychology. The introduction outlines this approach and discusses it in relation to Tozzi’s works. The following section provides an overview of the features of the novellas which can be read as Fallgeschichten; then, a close analysis of a selection of Tozzi’s texts is presented. This analysis highlights the similar dynamics of case representation between psychology and Tozzi’s works, and shows how the strategies developed for narrating clinical cases affect the form of the novella.
