Abstract
Cesare Viviani during the 1978 conference organized by the Turati Club in Milan announced «the theory of the decentralization of the subject». Milo De Angelis, whose literary debut, Somiglianze, is published two years previously, is often regarded as an author of the line proclaimed by Viviani. However, his unfettering of discourse from the domain of individual consciousness does not lead to definitive depersonalization of his poetry, but reveals a significative inclination to poetic dialogue. The distance reached in his work from the primacy of the narcissistic self does not coincide with the “death of the subject”. The self is in fact reborn in the heart of the representation, as an immanent part of it. This aspect is observed in the essay throughout the theme of memory, indispensable in explaining the ways in which the poetic subject is perceived. Consequently, the approach of De Angelis non only could be considered a search for individual identity, but also turns out to be a search for the possibilities of recovering the poetic identity in the era of the definitive “loss of the self”.
