Abstract

Metropolitan Cyprian and the Cults of Bulgarian Saints

This study analyzes the memories of Bulgarian saints, commemorated in the menology of the so-called Cyprian’s Psalter (RGB, f. 173, N° 142, Collection MDA, late 14th-early 15th Century). The Author attempts to account for the preponderance in this menology of Bulgarian (and Serbian) Saints. A brief survey of some of the saints’ memories (St. Petka of Tărnovo, 14 Oct.; S. John of Rila, 19 Oct.; St. Ilarion of Moglená, 20 Oct.; St. Constantine-Cyril, 14 Feb.; St. Joakim of Sarandapor, 16 Aug.) illustrates why Metropolitan Cyprian chose them for the menology of his Psalter.
