Abstract
In his paper Nome e racconto, the author studies the possible meaning taken on by the name of a literary fi gure. After an examination of the research conducted in this field, the paper moves on to consider the same topic in modern European literature. In the second part, the study anayzes literary works where characters are absent, in particular in the evangelical parables, linking this absence with the absolute ethical principle contained therein. In the fi nal part of the paper, the author broadens this interpretation to several tales of Nineteenth century Russian writers (Leskov and Leo Tolstoy).
