Abstract
The literary analysis of the short-story “Student” by A. Čechov shows a structure organised in three parts, each of which corresponds to a precise semantics. The meeting on Friday with the widow, Vasilissa, and her daughter, Luker’ja, causes an action, a paschal transformation of the main character, the student of the Theological Academy Ivan Velikopol’skij, bringing him to a new and deeper awareness: the words of the Gospel are related to the present, making life “fascinating, prodigious and profoundly meaningful”.
