Abstract

This study systematically maps the academic literature on crises in the wine industry and reveals the field’s intellectual structure. By identifying dominant themes, emerging trends, and future research directions in crisis-related studies within the context of the wine industry, it provides a comprehensive reference framework for scholars and industry stakeholders. A total of 79 articles published between 1991 and 2025 and indexed in the Web of Science database, focusing on the wine industry and crises, were selected for analysis. Bibliometric analyses were conducted using Biblioshiny, an R-based tool that incorporates performance analysis and science mapping techniques. Additionally, content analysis was applied to classify the types of crises addressed in the publications and link them to research trends in the wine industry. The results indicate that pandemics and financial/economic crises are the most extensively studied topics, whereas more specific crisis types remain under-explored. Performance analyses also highlight the growing international prominence of crisis-related research in the wine industry. This study is the first bibliometric analysis focused specifically on crises in the wine industry. It provides an integrated perspective of the field and offers an original contribution by outlining potential directions for future research.
