Il discorso interiore in Gli strumenti umani e L’opzione. Sette costanti formali tra assertività debole e modi del parlato

Abstract

This essay compares the poems collected in Gli strumenti umani and the prose L’opzione by Sereni, focusing on a number of shared stylistic constants. Through the analysis of figures of hesitation and reticence, the study shows how, in both texts, an interior discourse takes shape, marked by weak assertiveness, suspensions, and continuous qualifications. The result is the impression of witnessing the movement of Sereni’s thought and its ongoing effort to interrogate reality. The comparison also highlights a substantial continuity between poetry and prose: in both, language reflects a critical tension that is never fully resolved, resistant to definitive formulations and oriented toward a progressive, problematic, and constantly evolving understanding of experience.
