Focus and Scope

RA publishes articles peer-reviewed – in Italian, English, Spanish, French and German, sulla concerning the knowledge, conservation, and valorisation of all endangered, neglected, or ruined architectural structures and aims to focus attention on the methodologies of study and intervention on architectural heritage in archaeological contexts or connected to them (pluristratification).
The archaeological restoration may involve, for modes of intervention and enhancement purposes, in addition to the ancient heritage, even all the architectures that, due of their origin, conditions of use and maintenance are reduced to ruins; for instance, interventions could be undertaken on modern buildings that are abandoned or in a state of ruin, using procedures similar to those applied to ancient structures, with the primary purpose of maintaining memory: this is the case, for example, of industrial archaeology.
Therefore, the journal aims to be a privileged observation window of all possible conservative approaches depending on the geopolitical and cultural multiple contexts. With this in mind, ample space is given to multidisciplinary aspects inherent in the practice of restoration, with special attention to methodological and technical advances in the discipline.

Peer Review Process

Submissions are first evaluated by the Editors / Board of Directors and by the members of the Editorial Boards. If the manuscript is considered suitable for publication, it is sent to at least two reviewers. The peer review process is double-blind, whereby both referees and authors are kept anonymous. If the reviews are positive, but the manuscript requires to be revised and resubmitted, the author is expected to submit the revised version.

Contributions to Special Issues undergo the same double-blind peer-review process as contributions to regular issues.

Publication decisions by the Editors / Board of Directors are final.

Restauro Archeologico performs a plagiarism check using CrossRef Similarity Check (iThenticate), to ensure the originality of submitted manuscripts.

Open Access Policy and Article and Submissions Processing Charges (APCs)

Restauro Archeologico is a Diamond Open Access journal, and is featured among the journals indexed in the Diamond Discovery Hub (DDH).

All articles are freely available online immediately upon publication, with no APCs for authors, or subscription and access fees for readers.

The journal adheres to the Budapest Open Access Initiative (BOAI) definition of open access.

All content is published under a Creative Commons BY 4.0 License>, unless otherwise specified within. Metadata are shared under CC0 1.0 Universal License.

Publication Frequency

Published semiannually (two regular issues per year).

Waiver Information

Fee waivers do not apply at Firenze University Press.

In agreement with Firenze University Press, Restauro Archeologico is archived within the PKP Preservation Network (PKP PN).
