Abstract
The use of experimental construction solutions is one of the greatest challenges for the conservation of 20th-century architecture. Designer, entrepreneur and innovator in the development of reinforced concrete technology, Pier Luigi Nervi often built using the well-known system that took his name, which was based on the on-site construction of prefabricated elements and their reassembly. The complex organisation of the construction site into parts that characterizes the “Nervi’s System” encompasses a theoretical research process aimed at creating a monolithic structure, a fundamental property for structural strength. The methodological approach to restoration must therefore also consider the need to preserve the intangible value constituted by the underlying design and construction aspects: the technical-scientific cultural matrix, relating to his training period, together with empirical experimentation, as evidenced by the applied patents, become paradigmatic.
