Construcción de comunidad: narraciones de los inmigrantes colombianos en la ciudad europea

Abstract

The cultural, social and political conditions of the country of origin of an immigrant significantly mark the process in community building in the receiving society. The Latino immigrant’s and particularly Colombian’s narrations collected in Amsterdam, London and Madrid speak about this cultural passage and the conflicts and their continual confrontation with the realities of their country of origin. Although Colombians have the one of the largest groups among the Latin Americans in these cities, and have become leaders in some cultural and political integration activities, they still experience a fragile integration process and have difficulty in building community projects, which would make them visible as a group and where they could develop dynamics of solidarity and cohesion.
