Abstract

The French journal «Clio, Femmes, Genre, Histoire» was founded in 1995 in a cultural milieu not very favorable to the history of women. At the time, its subtitle was «Histoire, Femmes et Sociétés». From its inception, two thematic issues of three hundred pages each have been published every year, and the journal will soon publish its 50th issue and celebrate its 25th anniversary in 2020. Its history –political, intellectual and institutional at the same time– can be read as a succession of challenges that have been overcome.
