Abstract

The rediscovery of examples of historical and testimonial value relating to rural colonisation settlement projects in Italy and Spain (1950-1960) is particularly relevant in terms of developing appropriate measures for the protection, rehabilitation and preservation of existing heritage. This prerogative requires prior recognition of these settlement complexes and of certain original structures of particular cultural, landscape and architectural value. Starting from these premises, this contribution aims to compare the state of conservation of some of these agricultural villages, highlighting the main criteria and regulatory approaches in force in both contexts with regard to protection and preservation. In this regard, several emblematic case studies will be presented to highlight the possible effects in terms of strategies for the conservation and restoration, at the settlement and architectural level, of these rural heritage sites from the second half of the 20th century.
