Abstract

Stadiums, born in the second half of the 19th century as venues for sporting events, reached their peak of development in the 20th centrury alongside economic and territorial systems, becoming higly specialized and segmented spaces. However, the shift to post industrial economies focused on well-being and leisure is driving a profound trasformation, positioning stadiums as strategic tools for territorial development. In Italy, the 20th century sports architectural heritage, still underappreciated and often outdated, requires critical reflection: it is a fragile yet rich patrimony that needs renewal strategies to meet new social and urban demands. Based on research, this work proposes tools and strategies to valorize these architectures, fostering their role in urban and cultural regeneration.
