Abstract

The article aims to analyze the educational function of women in the dionysiac rituals in the Greek and Roman world, concentrating on literary, epigraphic and iconographic sources. Through this investigation, the research underlines three different feminine functions inside the dionysiac practices: 1. the role in the institution or reformation of bacchic ceremonies; 2. the leadership of associations in the honour of Dionysus; 3. the transmission of dionysiac rituals and traditions.
