Abstract

Palaeography and Ideology

The aim of this contribution is to focus attention on the problem of ideological influences in the study of Slav palaeography (Cyrillic and Glagolitic). Certain points are discussed at which this intersection becomes evident (the question of the genesis of the alphabet, so-called Western Cyrillic, and new theories on the scriptorial civilisation of Novgorod). In the case of the palaeographic analysis, the methodology applied in explaining this vast interference is wanting.
