Abstract

The essay aims to outline Eduardo Vittoria’s contribution to the definition of the characteristics of the contemporary technological and environmental culture of architectural design, starting from the analysis of three industrial buildings designed and realized between 1952 and 1970 for Olivetti of Ivrea, considered exemplary for the research of a new approach in the development of the design process, from the concept of design to technological experimentation. Vittoria’s “designing thinking”, always suspended between the reasons for making and the speculative tension, has evolved over half a century, starting from conditions based on the knowledge of practical terms and operational issues with which he had to deal in the course of his design and professional experiences.
