Abstract

Some languages, emblematically, represent in a symbolic way the world of experience of people who are exposed to strong external constraints, especially in times of crisis. This analysis, focusing on the material produced during the yearsof the Iran–Iraq War (from September 1980 to August 1988), serves an example to demonstrate how it is possible to study such kinds of social habitus based on the self- and world-images of people involved, represented through their shared means of communication and orientation.
